Extended Season For Some Northwest Ski Areas, But Profits Scarce

Many Northwest mountain resorts could operate longer if skier interest were there.

There will be end-of-season parties at at least nine Northwest ski resorts this weekend. But some other Cascade ski areas will welcome skiers and snowboarders well past Easter. That's thanks to late-season snow that fell at many area resorts. Timing means everything for the bottom line of these resort companies.

A Lost Season For An Oregon Ski Area

Mount Ashland has four chairlifts that typically run through their normal December thru mid-April season.

Southern Oregon’s Mount Ashland announced Friday that it won’t open at all this season because of a lack of snow.

This is the first canceled season in the ski area's fifty-year history.

Ski Season Arrives In The Northwest
