It all started on Facebook. An editor at The Stranger saw a post accusing Matt Hickey of sexual assault. The editor passed the tip to reporter Sydney Brownstone.


Hickey had freelanced with The Stranger, but that made Brownstone more determined to dig.

Oregon lawmakers voted Wednesday to eliminate the statute of limitations for first-degree sex crimes, including rape. Under current law, prosecutors have 12 years after the crime to file charges.

The Oregon Senate has approved a bill doubling the amount of time rape victims will have to press charges. It now goes to Governor Kate Brown for her signature.
