Oregon Unions Looking Closely At Home Care Workers Ruling

Oregon's unions are taking a close look today at the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on public sector workers.

The issue of pay raises for public employees is quickly becoming an issue in Washington’s race for governor. There’s much to debate including: a cost of living increase for teachers, a dollar-an-hour pay hike for unionized homecare workers, and an end to a 3 percent pay cut for state workers.

At the last governor’s debate, Republican Rob McKenna attacked Democrat Jay Inslee’s record as a state lawmaker in the early 1990s.

More than 700 workers in one of Oregon's largest counties are one step closer to walking off the job. Members of the Marion County Employee Association have voted by a three-to-one margin to authorize a strike.

More than 700 employees of Oregon's fifth largest county could vote later this month to go on strike. The Marion County Employee Association says it's scheduled a strike vote for August 30.
