The opioid epidemic is claiming another victim: young children who are neglected by their addicted parents. That’s according to the newest annual report on child fatalities in Washington state.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee has issued an executive order to address the state’s opioid epidemic. The order directs state agencies, tribal governments and private partners to implement a response plan that mainly focuses on prevention and treatment.

The state of Washington spends about $1 billion per year on prescription drugs -- that’s state and federal funds. And the cost has been going up. Now some state lawmakers are wondering if there’s a way to drive a better bargain. Or at least shed some new light on how drugs are priced.
