The Republican running for Oregon governor dialed up the rhetoric against incumbent Democrat John Kitzhaber.

On Thursday, Dennis Richardson accused Kitzhaber of dragging his feet in releasing public records related to the role of first lady Cylvia Hayes. Richardson held a Portland press conference after news organizations complained this week that the governor's office has been slow to hand over public records.

Here's the latest get out the vote tool: A new app lets Oregonians see if their Facebook friends have voted yet. If they haven't, the app lets the user badger them until they do.

The app is called Did They Vote.

Dennis Richardson made the request Thursday in a letter to the U.S. Attorney's office in Portland. The campaign for Richardson's general election opponent dismisses the request as a waste of time.

Incumbent Democrat John Kitzhaber has come under fire for allegedly looking the other way while his fiancée, Cylvia Hayes, secured lucrative consulting gigs purportedly by using her role of first lady.

The race for Oregon governor is a battle between two political veterans. Incumbent Democrat John Kitzhaber is seeking an unprecedented fourth term. Republican Dennis Richardson is hoping for a promotion from his long-held seat in the Oregon House.

Both of Oregon's major-party candidates for governor plan to blanket the airwaves this fall. Democrat incumbent John Kitzhaber and Republican challenger Dennis Richardson rolled out campaign commercials Wednesday.

This fall, Oregon voters will choose between five candidates for U.S. Senator and six candidates for governor. It could be the last time the general election ballot is this crowded in Oregon. That's because of one of the initiatives up for a vote this year. Measure 90 would create a nonpartisan primary for all candidates. The top two would advance to the general election, regardless of party. It’s similar to the elections system already in place in Washington state.

A group of Oregonians will meet this week in Salem to figure out where they stand on an upcoming ballot measure. It's called the Citizens’ Initiative Review, and it's been a part of the Oregon election process since 2010. This Oregon-based exercise in democracy is expanding to two more states this year.
