Oregon Gov. Kate Brown Appoints Eight New Judges

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has appointed eight new judges to Clackamas and Multnomah County Circuit Courts as well as the state’s Court of Appeals.

The lawsuit brought by 21 youth plaintiffs against the federal government over climate change could go to trial this summer. Tuesday, Eugene Federal Magistrate Judge Thomas Coffin met with attorneys in a pre-trial conference. The courtroom was packed with local climate activists.

A three judge panel of the Oregon Court of Appeals will hear arguments Friday in a lawsuit brought by two young people against the state over climate change. The case is related to a federal climate lawsuit that’s also underway.

Marion County Circuit Court Judge Vance Day faces an inquiry into a wide range of misconduct allegations. Day will face the Oregon Commission on Judicial Fitness and Disability starting Monday morning.
