A controversy over a California wildlife official has Idaho hunters shaking their heads. The California Fish and Game commission stripped its president of his title for hunting a cougar in Idaho – which is legal in the Gem State, but not in California.

At the London Olympics today, Oregon's own Ashton Eaton placed first in the Men's Decathlon, coming in just shy of the Olympic record. That achievement earned the 24-year-old Eaton not only a gold medal, but also the ceremonial title of "World's Greatest Athlete."

Scores of people watched at the University of Portland Thursday as the American women’s soccer team defeated Japan for the Olympic gold medal. USA star Megan Rapinoe is a UP graduate. But another player with Northwest ties might’ve been more critical to the win.

A Vancouver, Wash., man has been arrested for allegedly threatening a state Senate candidate. The Clark County sheriff's office took Gary Owen into custody Thursday on charges of sending two threatening emails to Eileen Qutub , a Republican. She described the letters as "vile" and "sexually perverted" and said that Owen threatened to shoot her in the head.

This Sunday, a group of mountain climbers, students and Lummi tribal members will embark on an expedition to re-create the first ascent of Washington’s second tallest peak. That's Mount Baker. The modern-day expedition includes historical touches along with some concessions to practicality.

The Willamette Riverkeeper is threatening to sue two pulp mills in the Willamette Valley for allegedly violating the Clean Water Act. OPB’s Vince Patton was paddling with the Riverkeeper director when the water suddenly turned dark brown.

Northwest drivers could be paying more at the pump.   That’s because this week’s refinery fire in California is likely to affect gas prices.  Ruby de Luna has more.
