President Barack Obama was at Nike's campus near Beaverton Friday, pitching the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement. 

The president said a progressive, high standard trade agreement like the Trans-Pacific Partnership would open new markets and support high quality jobs. He used Nike factories across the world as an example.

Oregon lawmakers have turned away an attempt to expand a tax deal offered to athletic apparel giant Nike last year. Democrats in the Oregon Senate Wednesday rejected a Republican measure to freeze the way taxes are calculated on businesses.

The Special Session of the Oregon legislature lasted just one day. The unusual lame-duck gathering Saturday was meant to assure sports apparel giant Nike that the state would not change the way it calculates income taxes for the Oregon-based company. Salem Correspondent Chris Lehman reports.

Protesters outside the Oregon capitol building Friday are urging lawmakers to reject a bill to give Nike special tax status. Lawmakers are meeting in special session to consider the measure. It would allow the governor to freeze the way Oregon calculates the shoe giant’s corporate income taxes. In exchange, the Beaverton-based company would promise to invest at least $150 million and expand by at least 500 jobs in Oregon.

Nike Drops Paterno Name From Child Care Facility

Shoe giant Nike is dropping the name Joe Paterno from the childcare facility at the company's Beaverton headquarters. It's more fall-out from a new report saying Paterno and other Penn State officials hid critical information about child sex abuse.

Elected officials in Oregon are not violating ethics rules if they shop for discounted shoes and apparel at a store meant for Nike employees. That’s the ruling Friday from Oregon Government Ethics Commission.

Nike runs a store just for employees at its Beaverton headquarters. The shop features popular Nike products at wholesale prices. Last month a lobbyist for Nike wrote the Ethics Commission to ask whether government officials would run afoul of state ethics laws if they accepted passes to visit the store.
