Republican Rep. Dan Newhouse of central Washington appeared in Wenatchee Wednesday to state his case for transferring federal land to states. He was joined by Utah Republican Rep. Rob Bishop who’s also up for re-election.

The Senate Natural Resources Committee approved a 1 year extension of timber payments Tuesday. The payments help out counties with large national forests: land that isn’t on local tax rolls. Amelia Templeton reports.

An effort to streamline the regulatory process for small hydropower dams is generating a rare moment of bipartisanship in Congress. Two bills sailed through a Senate committee Wednesday. They've already passed the House. Correspondent Jessica Robinson has more.
