Boeing Announces Earnings Amid Washington Job Cuts

Boeing is reporting a spike in profits compared to this time last year. But plane sales are slumping. That’s led the Chicago-based plane maker to continue to cut jobs in Washington state. Hundreds of union machinists and engineers here received layoff notices this month.

The University of Oregon could lay off as many as 75 non-tenured faculty in order to cope with a nearly $9 million deficit. the school is also considering a more than ten percent hike in tuition for in-state students.

A short online post broke the story to viewers and readers that the regional all-news channel Northwest Cable News will air its last broadcast on January 6.

Leaders of the Oregon Department of Human Services are assuring the public that the agency is committed to its mission despite recent turnover in management. That message came during a pair of public meetings Friday.
