Highway 530 Closure: 'A Disaster Within A Disaster' Says Darrington Mayor

State officials say they didn't approve clearcutting inside a no-logging zone directly above Saturday's deadly landslide in the town of Oso.  But aerial photos show a clearcut extending into the zone where a loss of trees would heighten the risk of landslides.

Inslee Promises Help To Darrington After Mudslide

14 people are dead and over 100 missing after a massive landslide in Oso, Washington demolished 30 homes early Saturday morning.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee visited the town of Darrington on Monday after a fatal mudslide impacted their community.

He brought promises of federal assistance, which includes the National Guard, and help from Pierce County's search and rescue personnel. They're looking for any survivors of the mudslide that has blocked a highway and killed fourteen people in the nearby town of Oso, Washington.

Severe Landslides In Washington Could Be Signs Of Times Ahead

BNSF Railway has had 200 landslides on or near its tracks this season, making it one of the worst since the company began keeping records in 1914.
