Those are the words Washington Governor Jay Inslee used to describe the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

The administration of Washington Governor Jay Inslee has officially begun a rulemaking to cap greenhouse gas pollution from large industrial sources. Inslee is flexing his executive powers to bypass the state legislature, which has repeatedly chosen not to put a price on carbon.

A security breach at the Washington governor’s mansion on August 7, 2013 was more serious than first reported. Records obtained from the Washington State Patrol reveal the trespasser broke a window before he was arrested at gunpoint.

The perimeter surrounding Washington’s governor’s mansion has been breached twice by trespassers since 2013. The incidents were not publicized at the time.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee says the fires burning across the state represent a “new normal.” On a tour of the fire lines Thursday, the Democrat reiterated his call for a program to limit carbon emissions.

“So we got to attack this at its source which is carbon pollution. And that’s for another day. Right now we’ve got to put out these fires,” said Inslee.

The battle continues to contain dozens of large wildfires burning across the Northwest. Firefighters are hoping for a break in the weather this weekend -- and perhaps even some rain.

Fires burning across Washington state have grown to about 390,000 acres and killed three firefighters. Now elected officials are asking the Obama administration for federal money to help fight them.

Officials praised firefighters for their dedicated and dangerous work on the front lines in Washington State today.

The Washington State Patrol is responsible for guarding the governor and his wife. But audio recordings obtained through public records reveal the Patrol’s Executive Protection Unit is also concerned about protecting the governor politically -- at least when it comes to driving him in a gas-guzzling SUV.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee said Wednesday there’s still “a lot of mileage to cover” as budget talks continue in Olympia. But he was reluctant to characterize where negotiations stand.

A new oil refinery is the last thing you might expect Washington Gov. Jay Inslee’s administration to be courting. After all, Inslee has developed a national reputation as a champion of curbing the use of fossil fuels.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee is working to revive his plan to charge for carbon pollution and use the proceeds to fund schools.

The Democrat met Wednesday behind closed doors with Speaker of the House Frank Chopp to discuss the issue.

Inslee views it as a twofer. Charge industry for carbon emissions. Then take the money generated and put a chunk of it into fully funding public schools.

Inslee unveiled the idea last December, but it died in the Democratic-controlled Washington House.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee signed a bill Tuesday to help prevent gun violence in mental health emergencies. It allows families to request notification when police return guns to loved ones.

It’s called the Sheena Henderson Act and it’s named for a Spokane woman.

Sheena’s husband Chris had been making suicidal threats before police confiscated his gun.

The day after they returned it, he fatally shot his wife and himself.
