Obama's Portland Visit Met By Protestors

President Obama's visit to Portland was met by several groups of protestors.

President Barack Obama is in Portland this afternoon. He arrived late this morning and met with members of the Oregon National Guard.

The president also made a stop at The Gateway Breakfast House in Northeast Portland, where he greeted diners and sat at a table with three Oregon veterans.

The Oregon Secretary of State's office announced Monday that it has certified an initiative for the ballot that could eventually lead to the region’s first full-service casino not operated by a tribe.

Seattle City Councilman Richard Conlin sent an e-mail to some of his constituents Tuesday. He told them he doesn’t believe the proposed NBA arena in the Seattle SODO area deserves public funds. The backers of the arena proposal have asked the city and the county for up to $200 million in public bonds. But Conlin says that money is better kept in the general fund.

Currently you can walk out of a tobacco shop with a pack of roll-your-own cigarettes for about $5.50. A pack of Marlboros will put you back almost twice that much. That’s because tobacco shops don’t charge the same tax on roll-your-own cigarettes as they would for pre-packaged cigarettes.

Wash. Revenue Projections Holding Steady

Washington's revenue forecast has seen a slight uptick, but still remains essentially flat.

Washington’s economy remains essentially flat. That’s the takeaway from Washington’s quarterly revenue forecast out Wednesday. It shows an increase of about a $150 million through the current two-year budget cycle.

That slight uptick in projected revenues is mostly due to legislative policy decisions this year like fund transfers, not the economy.
