After 8 Years, Spokane Pastor Will Resume Marriages, Gay And Straight

Reverend Todd Eklof, of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Spokane, will soon perform his first marriage ceremony in eight years.

Reverend Todd Eklof made a vow in 2004, the year 11 states, including Oregon and Kentucky, passed constitutional amendments against gay marriage. He stopped performing any marriages. But starting Dec. 9 same-sex couples can get married legally in Washington. And that day will also mark a turning point for the Spokane minister. Eklof discussed his vow with Northwest News Network's Jessica Robinson.

Gay Marriage Foes Vow Civil Campaign In Wash.

Workers at Washington’s Secretary of State’s office begin to count R-74 petitions.

Opponents of gay marriage in Washington vow to run a civil campaign to repeal the state’s new marriage equality law. Preserve Marriage Washington Wednesday submitted twice the voter signatures it needs to qualify for the November ballot.

The group’s Joseph Backholm says he wants a campaign about issues, not people.

Washington Catholics Take On Referendum 74

This fall, people in Washington state will likely vote on a referendum to repeal same-sex marriage. Backers of Referendum 74 plan to turn in signatures by Wednesday to put the issue on the ballot. One of the biggest proponents of the repeal is the Catholic archdiocese of Seattle. It wants all of its parishes to actively campaign against same-sex marriage. But some Catholics are feeling caught in the middle, as Liz Jones reports.

For Some Black Baptists, Evolving Views On Gay Marriage

This week, same-sex marriage opponents in Washington state plan to turn in signatures for Referendum 74. The measure seeks to rollback the state’s recent legalization of gay marriage.

Conservative churches are a key base for the Referendum campaign, including many African American churches. Numerous polls show black voters, compared to whites, are more opposed to gay marriage.

Now, some wonder how these voters’ views might shift given President Obama’s support for marriage equality.

Obama Reaffirms Gay Rights Stance At Seattle Fundraiser

President Obama made a quick fundraising trip through Seattle Thursday. The trip included his first appearances since announcing his support for gay marriage. Starbucks Opponents Take Boycott Attempt Abroad

SEATTLE, Wash. -- A group that opposes same-sex marriage is taking its boycott of Starbucks to the other side of the world. The National Organization For Marriage is upset that the Seattle-based coffee chain has come out in favor of legalizing gay marriage in Washington state as well as nationally.
