Hospital Near The Gorge Hoping For A Mellow Dave Matthews Concert Weekend

This weekend Dave Matthews returns to the Gorge Amphitheater in central Washington for his annual three-day concert. But it won't be much of a holiday for doctors at a local hospital. The Quincy Valley Medical Center said this summer there's been only a small decline in concert goers coming to the ER.

 Symphony season is coming to a close and summertime is on its way!  That means it’s time for the many fantastic summer classical music festivals here in the Northwest, where regional, national and international stars perform in some spectacular venues, both indoors and out.

Longview, Washington Goes Nutty Over Squirrels

It's natural to make certain assumptions about civic festivals. The Chehalis Garlic Fest will serve all things garlic. The Penticton Peach Festival will have peach cobbler. Bear stew is a big draw at the McCleary, Washington Bear Festival. But what about Longview, Washington's big celebration this Saturday, Squirrel Fest? No, they don't actually cook furry creatures at Squirrel Fest.

JACKSONVILLE, Ore. – You expect West Coast cities with large Asian populations to colorfully and grandly celebrate the Chinese New Year.  But that is not a given in a southern Oregon county where the U.S. Census recently measured the Asian-American population at barely 1 percent.  Yet on Saturday, polished troupes of lion and dragon dancers romped down the main street of Jacksonville, Oregon during a Chinese New Year’s parade that drew more than 1,000 spectators.

Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Returns To Moscow

MOSCOW, Idaho -- The Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival is back for another year at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Now ten years after the death of its namesake, the festival, like many such celebrations, is challenged by a changing jazz industry. Northwest Public Radio’s Glenn Mosley reports.
