Fauré’s Requiem and Brahms’ Nänie
May 31, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$10 – $15The CWU Choirs and Orchestras invite you to our 2023 collaboration concert featuring Fauré’s “Requiem” and “Nänie” by Brahms. The performance is Wednesday, May 31 at 7pm in the Hertz Concert Hall of the McIntyre Music building on the CWU campus. The event is ticketed and features performances by University Chorale, Wildcat Chorus, Vox Divina, and The CWU Chamber Choir alongside the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras.
The “Requiem” by Fauré will be performed in the 1893 chamber version with the Chamber Orchestra and all CWU choirs combined. The work is a prayer of hope for one who has passed on and uses traditional text of a Requiem mass for the dead.
The text of Brahms’ “Nänie,” by Friedrich Schilller, explores the idea that everything, even the beautiful and perfect, must die. Using stories of Greek mythology, the music illustrates how the gods weep for mortals.
This concert is the first choral-orchestral collaboration since before the pandemic.
Tickets available through Wildcat Tickets, online or at the door.
