Review Process Kicks Off For Gateway Pacific Terminal In Bellingham

Some protestors wore gas masks in opposition to a proposed bulk export terminal in Bellingham.

BELLINGHAM -- SSA Marine has submitted a permit application to build a bulk export terminal in Bellingham.

If approved, the terminal will be large enough to handle up to 54 million metric tons per year.

That could include wheat and grains but the majority will be coal. It will be delivered by train from mines in Wyoming and Montana – and then shipped out of Washington to Asian markets.

Interstate 5 Will Soon Be An Electric Highway

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. -- It’s getting easier to take an electric car on a Northwest road-trip. As Amelia Templeton reports, I-5 is going electric.

There’s a Chevron station just off of I-5 in Central Point, Oregon. You can buy gas here. Its more than 4 dollars a gallon. Or you can plug in an electric car for free, and charge it in about 20 minutes. The Oregon Department of Transportation has just opened 8 charging stations like this one in Southern Oregon.

Fee On Electric Cars In Wash. To Offset Unpaid Gas Tax

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Electric car owners in Washington state would pay a $100 fee under a measure headed to the governor's desk. The aim is to offset the gas taxes these drivers are not paying. The bill passed Thursday night in one of the final votes of this year's regular session of the Washington Legislature, as Tom Banse reports.

Cattle raised on dairy farms can be a cause of air pollution.

OUTLOOK, Wash. – A recent study is raising questions about the air quality in the Yakima Valley. The area has a high concentration of large-scale dairies. As Courtney Flatt reports, residents living near the dairies have noticed respiratory problems as more dairies moved in.
