If you have a driver’s license you probably use it for more than driving. You verify your credit card. Buy a drink. Get on a plane. But what if you showed your ID and it was no good? That’s starting to happen to people from Idaho because of a federal law.

Washington, Oregon and Idaho are trying to figure out how to keep their state driver’s licenses from becoming obsolete in the eyes of the federal government.

Tuesday Oregon voters rejected Measure 88, a referendum that would have allowed driver cards for Oregonians who can’t prove they’re in the country legally.
