In Time For Easter: Northwest Asparagus Popping Up Early

Asparagus spears grow from a underground crown. They send up the new shoots daily. Workers pass over a field each morning to collect what's grown. Later, the spears are sorted by size and bundled at a plant in Pasco.

Northwest asparagus fields are sprouting about 10 days earlier than usual this spring. It’s in time for Easter brunch, but a headache for farmers.
