Washington Governor’s Schedule Includes Lots Of Pot Talk

Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s first weeks in office were highlighted by marijuana legalization and meetings with key Democratic constituencies. That’s according to copies of his schedule released to our Olympia Correspondent Austin Jenkins under a public records request.

Marijuana-related meetings show up on Gov. Inslee’s schedule not once, but at least five times during his first 17 days in office. Such is life in 2013 for the governor of a state that is going where no state has gone before - legalizing recreational pot. Inslee’s schedule even includes a previously undisclosed White House meeting with a top Obama administration official.

Inslee’s office says marijuana legalization was one topic of discussion. When he wasn’t talking pot, Inslee found time to meet or speak to key supporters including union officials, environmentalists and trial lawyers.

A glance at the schedule shows Inslee had far more meetings in his first days in office with members of Oregon’s Congressional delegation, than Washington’s. Topics included the new Columbia River Crossing.

So far, Inslee’s schedule shows he’s generally an 8 to 5 or 9 to 6 kind of governor, with time at the end of the day to hit the gym.
