Two Robinsons Challenge Oregon Congressman
Springfield Democrat Peter DeFazio will face a father and son in his bid for re-election to Oregon's 4th District seat in the House of Representatives.
Art Robinson of Cave Junction filed as a Republican last September to challenge DeFazio in 2012. Tuesday, Robinson's son Matthew filed to run for the seat as a Democrat. He says he didn't want DeFazio to run unchallenged in the May 15th primary.
Robinson: "I don't think the issues are necessarily partisan. Honesty is not a partisan issue for one thing."
Matthew Robinson is a graduate student at Oregon State University studying nuclear engineering. His father last year accused OSU of trying to expel Matthew and two of his other children who were students there. OSU denied this. Matthew Robinson would not comment on that situation. He says he is still an OSU student and the school has resolved the trouble he was having. Matthew Robinson has never run for office, but helped his father in his congressional campaign.
Peter DeFazio beat Art Robinson by 11 percentage points in the 2010 election.
