The Sunnyside Turnoff Fire near Warm Springs is now 40 percent contained. It's now more than 45 thousand acres according to an infrared flight Wednesday morning.
Officials suspect the blaze was sparked by a cigarette flicked out of a vehicle. It started Saturday and has moved into the Mutton Mountains. Fire Information Officer Rawlin Richardson says the large change in acreage from the previous report was due to an omission of areas burned in the early stage of the fire.
"So when the next infrared flight came out, it was looked at and those spots are actually black, but they're cold now, so the parameter was drawn around those spots where the actual fire burned on Saturday, which was an additional about 15,000 acres" says Richardson.
Richardson says night operations made good progress preparing control lines and burnout operations. Full containment is expected by next Monday.
