Summer Festivals 2016

It’s that time again – the Northwest spotlights chamber music with summer festivals throughout the region, and provides the perfect scenery for classical music performances.

The Walla Walla Chamber Music Festival brings together another international cast of performers for this summer. 30 events across the valley include intimate winery performances, specially commissioned works and outreach concerts for teens and children. June 2 – 25

There’s a new Northwest ensemble performing this summer - the Washington Allegro Vivace Ensemble. Also known as WAVE, the resident music ensemble of the Firehouse Performing Arts Center is giving six concerts in June, July and August.  June 24 – August 20

One of the Northwest’s best-known festivals has been making music in a Cascade mountain retreat for more than 20 years. Join the musicians at Icicle Creek for favorites from Beethoven and Brahms, mixed with some more adventurous selections during their Summer Chamber Music FestivalJuly 1 – 16

Works from Beethoven, Mozart and Schumann open this year’s Summer Festival from the Seattle Chamber Music Society. Be part of the more than 30 years of northwest classical music with a combination of recitals and concerts throughout July. July 5 - 30

Cellist Lynn Harrell opens this year’s Bellingham Festival of Music with Schumann’s cello concerto, starting off more than two weeks of chamber music this summer, including a performance in the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. July 1 – 17


The Lake Chelan Bach Festival continues their tradition of music in a mountain setting. The festival string quartet performs at wineries throughout the week. There are a variety of jazz, classical and pops-centered concerts, and even an interactive children’s concert featuring the Peter and the Wolf instrument petting zoo.  July 7 - 16, 2016

 After more than 30 years of performances on the Olympic peninsula, the Olympic Music Festival has a new home in Port Townsend’s Wheeler Theater. This summer’s festival kicks off with violinist Sarah Chang performing the Four Seasons of Buenos Aires from the king of neo-tango himself, Astor Piazzolla. July 16 – September 11

The Victoria Summer Music Festival welcomes a few new faces and returning ensembles to the stage. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the opening concert, Basses Loaded, with an international line-up of 18 double bassists. July 26 – August 11

A breathtaking mountain view is the perfect accompaniment to a musical performance – and that’s what you’ll find in Winthrop at the Methow Valley Chamber Music Festival, celebrating it’s their 21st season with some of today’s finest performers. July 28 – August 6

If a trip to the San Juans may be in order this summer, give it the perfect soundtrack of Gershwin, Mendelssohn and Mozart. The Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival brings together musicians from across the United States to this island getaway. Make sure to say hello to Steve Reeder, as he’ll be part of the performance August 9. August 4 -20
