Spokane Mayor Won't Sign Climate Ordinance

Aug 4, 2017

Spokane’s Mayor David A. Condon won’t sign an ordinance that would have codified the city’s sustainability and environmental conservation goals.

Instead, Condon released a new 10-Step Plan today to implement items included in Spokane's Sustainability Action Plan.

City council members approved the new law last month.

Condon told the Spokesman-Review newspaper he was concerned about the financial sustainability of the new law -- and whether it might price people out of Spokane.

In 2010, Spokane’s city council set a goal to reduce greenhouse gas emission by 30 percent, by the year 2030.
