Radio Pioneer Urges Women To Guard Their Rights
By John Paxson
PULLMAN, Wash -- Edie Hilliard, a pioneer for women in radio, delivered the keynote speech recently at Washington State University’s annual Women’s Recognition Luncheon in Pullman. This year’s theme was “Women’s Education – Women’s Empowerment.”
In 1981 Hilliard became one of the first female general managers of a radio station. In 2000 she was ranked first on Radio Ink’s list of “Most Influential Women” and was recently named one of the area’s “Women of Influence” by the Puget Sound Business Journal. Her speech at WSU was about women, media and the real danger that rights taken for granted can too easily be lost.
