President Trump announced Monday that he is significantly shrinking two national monuments in Utah. Two other monuments are on the chopping block as well – including Oregon’s Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument.
But for the time being, the Southern Oregon Monument remains intact.
The White House didn’t make any specific announcements about Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument, which straddles the Oregon-California border a few miles east of where I am in Ashland. But no one really believes it’s going to stay that way.
Obama doubled the size of the monument earlier this year, but the current administration says this and other similar actions overstepped the authority of the president. And the expectation is that we’ll learn the fate of Cascade-Siskiyou in the coming weeks.
