Officials Expect Taylor Bridge Fire To Be Contained By Tuesday

Aug 20, 2012

Fire crews expect to contain the Taylor Bridge Fire in central Washington by Tuesday afternoon. Crews are now working in steep terrain on the northwest side of the blaze.

Wind is the main factor that could set firefighters back this week on the Taylor Bridge blaze. The fire fighting force has now grown to more than 1,000 people.

Randy Shepard is a fire information officer. He says lower temperatures this week are helping them fight the fire, but it’s very tough.

“It’s steep slopes, it’s heavier fuels, it has timber on it, but it’s also intermixed with jumbled rocks often referred to as scree slopes, so it makes it difficult in that area.”

Shepard says before residents can move back to their homes, each household has to have a clear perimeter around it of 18 acres. That means firefighters will be sticking around for a while.
