The North Cascades Highway is closed. The Washington State Department of Transportation closed the highway at noon Monday because of a danger of heavy snow and avalanche.
Bart Treece is a spokesperson for the state DOT. He says even his crews can’t go up there right now.
“We're getting some snow slides out there. And if it’s too dangerous for our crews to go out there and remove the snow, it’s definitely too dangerous for you or your family to start driving across there. So we’re closing it, and we’re going to keep an eye on it after this storm system goes through and re-assess it on Wednesday.”
Wednesday is the day before Thanksgiving. The North Cascades Highway is state Route 20. It’s closed from just east of Diablo, to just west of Mazama.
