Massive Animal Rescue Effort Underway For Victims Of Washington State’s Taylor Bridge Fire

Aug 16, 2012

Over a hundred volunteers are helping to evacuate, sort and care for animals burned or displaced by the Taylor Bridge Fire near Cle Elum in Washington State.

Injured chickens, potbellied pigs, cattle and horses are showing up by the hundreds at the Ellensburg Rodeo Grounds. Hundreds more are running free through Kittitas County. Owners come here to find their animals.

Veterinarians and volunteers are treating and feeding the animals around the clock. Mark Kinsel is the head vet directing the work.

Kinsel: “A lot of the people that were in harm’s way were having a hard time leaving their animals behind. And a lot of them were very upset about having to cut the fences and let their horses and cows go out and fend for themselves.”

Local businesses are donating feed and medical supplies.
