Idaho Firefighter Charged With Starting Karney Fire Near Boise
An 18-year-old volunteer firefighter is charged with setting a Monday fire that’s threatening homes about 20 miles northeast of Boise, Idaho.
Sheriff’s officials in Boise County arrested Nathaniel Bartholomew. He’s now charged with setting the Karney fire.
Investigators say Bartholomew was seen in the area where the fire started. He was then fighting the fire Monday night before being pulled off the blaze. Police say he later confessed. The young man has firefighters in his family, and investigators think he may have been trying to gain their attention.
Initially, the fire threatened only about 20 homes in the area where it first started burning . But the fire jumped a containment line on Tuesday morning, and officials say it could now reach several hundred homes.
