The University of Oregon hosted the first round of the NCAA volleyball tournament Friday night at Matt Court. It was the first time the U of O has hosted the tourney since the 1980's and the 5th seeded Ducks didn’t disappoint.

Matthew Knight arena was filled with the squeaks, slams and roars of the post season. The Ducks met Northern Colorado, who kept it close early in the first game. But the in the end, the Bears were just outmatched by the hitters of Oregon.

More than 3,000 people cheered on Pac 12 Player of the Year Alaina Bergsma who led the team in kills and spoke after the game.

Bergsma: “It was really fun because we had a really big crowd tonight. You could definitely feel the excitement. It definitely helps. It gives you a home court advantage for sure when you have a lot of people in there cheering for you… and even fighting for your calls.”

Oregon has had a stellar season, arguably their best of all time. They’ve never made it past the third round of the NCAA Tournament, but this year hopes are high for a championship run. The Ducks continue that journey tonight in Eugene with a second round game against the Dayton Flyers.

The University of Washington is playing in the same bracket as Oregon in the Tournament. They won their first round match against Central Arkansas. If both teams continue winning they will meet each other in the fourth round.
