Another Democrat has entered a crowded race to unseat Washington Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler. Thursday night Carolyn Long announced her bid for Congress at a launch party in Vancouver.
Carolyn Long fired up a room of supporters as she announced her candidacy for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District.
Long, a political science professor at Washington State University Vancouver has never run for public office. She said Trump’s election and political divisions prompted her to enter the race and represent southwest Washington.
“It is time to take back Washington’s 3rd,” Long said. “To elect somebody in Congress who will fight for you, an active policy maker who will work every day to secure your trust.”
The seat is currently held by Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler, who easily secured her fourth term last year.
Long joins three other Democrats vying for Herrera Beutler’s seat.
The district encompasses Clark County and much of southwest Washington. Before Herrera Beutler, the district had gone to a Democrat for the previous 12 years.
