After Backlash Over Comments, Wash. Democrats Will Donate JZ Knight Contributions
The Washington Democratic Party says it will donate contributions from controversial spiritual leader JZ Knight to the Anti-Defamation League and the campaign to uphold gay marriage. The announcement late Friday follows the release of several video clips that show Knight making offensive and at times bizarre comments about gay people, Catholics and others.
Benton Strong is a spokesman for the Washington Democratic Party.
“It’s pretty clear that the vitriol in this is not the kind of thing that we support as a Democratic Party," Strong says. "We strongly believe in equality and inclusiveness and the comments made by JZ Knight simply don’t reflect our values.”
Strong says the Party will donate a total of $70,000. For several days now Democrats have resisted Republican calls to return the money.
Knight claims to channel an ancient spirit named Ramtha. She runs a School of Enlightenment near Olympia. In the most recent video to be released she talks about an “invasion of Mexicans who breed like rabbits.”
