On Deck at Boeing's 787 Assembly Line

Outside the Boeing plant in Everett, newly assembled 787s sit ready for delivery. Inside, the production line rolls on. That’s despite this week’s setbacks for the company’s newest model, the 787 Dreamliner.

Airlines around the world have grounded the planes amid concerns about its lithium ion batteries. It was a battery issue that caused an All Nippon Airways’787 to make an emergency landing in Japan earlier this week. KUOW’s Liz Jones visited the Boeing plant in Everett to get a closer view of this aircraft under scrutiny.

The Federal Aviation Administration is grounding all Boeing 787 Dreamliners in the US. That’s after a 787 in Japan was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday because of a battery problem. Deborah Wang from member station KUOW in Seattle reports.

Horizon Air To Base Flight Crews In Boise, Medford and Spokane

Horizon Air will be establishing new inland northwest bases of operation starting in August. The airline plans to expand to three Northwest cities.

Horizon Air now bases its flight crews in Seattle and Portland. By the end of the summer, its nearly 900 pilots and flight attendants will also call Boise, Idaho, Medford, Oregon and Spokane, Washington home. Paul McElroy is a spokesman for the airline.

Alaska Airlines Will Begin Flights To Portland From The Tri-Cities

PASCO, Wash. - Travelers in the Tri-Cities will have a new flight option starting in August. Alaska Airlines announced today that it will begin flying from Tri-Cities Airport in Pasco (PSC) to Portland International Airport (PDX) in Oregon. The once-daily Portland-Pasco roundtrip flights will begin on August 27, using Horizon Air Q-400 turboprops, sometimes known as the Dash-8.
