Thursday marks three years since four Lakewood police officers were murdered in a coffee shop. The gunman was an Arkansas parolee named Maurice Clemmons. Since then, records show an additional 3,400 out-of-state parolees have moved to Washington. And hundreds more have absconded. Olympia Correspondent Austin Jenkins reports.

Lakewood Officer Receives Federal Embezzlement Sentence

A former police officer in Lakewood, Washington will spend 2 years, 9 months in federal prison, and pay immediate restitution. That was the sentence handed down in federal court today after he pleaded guilty to embezzlement. Amy Radil of KUOW reports.

In federal court in Tacoma, former Lakewood police officer Skeeter Timothy Manos faced the anger of the people he stole from.

Manos has admitted to embezzling over $150,000 from his police officer’s union and the families of fallen officers.

After four Lakewood officers were killed, Nov. 2009, donations poured into the union.

The high court has imposed a mandatory cap on the number of cases lawyers for the poor can take. You might assume public defenders would be cheering – finally they’re going to get relief. But in fact some lawyers are downright offended and angry. Correspondent Austin Jenkins profiles one.

'Barefoot Bandit' Sentenced To More Than Six Years In Prison

A judge in U.S. District Court in Seattle sentenced Colton Harris-Moore, also known as the “Barefoot Bandit,” to six-and-a-half years in prison Friday. Speaking before the judge, Harris-Moore expressed remorse, said he’s lucky to be alive, and told other young people not to follow his example. KUOW’s Amy Radil reports.

Colton Harris-Moore was sentenced on seven federal counts including thefts of airplanes and weapons during his cross-country spree. He’s also been sentenced to more than seven years for state charges.
