OLYMPIA, WA - Washington’s top elections official is predicting voter turnout today will be “about average” for an off-year election. Secretary of State Sam Reed says the popularity of vote-by-mail should keep turnout on pace. All counties in Washington State, except for Pierce County, have switched to voting solely by mail.

Sam Reed: “I’m projecting a 51 percent turnout with having a couple of hot, controversial statewide measures, a number of good local races in certain parts of the state. But that’s balanced off with other parts that don’t have much going on.”

There are two statewide ballot measures in Washington. Initiative 10-33 caps revenue growth for state and local government. Referendum 71 asks voters to keep or reject an expansion of domestic partnership benefits.
