Description
Thursday, September 16, 12:30 PM Thursday Brown Bag: Curator’s Exhibition Tour of Collections Selections One/Shifting Views of Space and Place Whatcom Museum Lightcatcher building, 250 Flora Street $3 suggested donation/Museum members free The Whatcom Museum has amassed a remarkable collection of art from the Northwest and beyond, including works by internationally recognized artists Roger Brown, Vija Celmins, Sonja Delaunay, Doris Chase, Morris Graves, and Mark Tobey, among others. This exhibition, the first in a new series showcasing the collection, highlights paintings, drawings, prints, and sculptures by these artists and many others, beginning with James Everett Stuart’s Mount Baker from Port Townsend (1885). More abstracted interpretations, such as Sonia Delaunay’s Semicircles (1970) and Spencer Moseley’s Somersault (1952), hang side by side with realistic depictions of life and landscape, providing viewers with a kaleidoscopic impression of art and artists across the country.
