Dr. Rhoda Howard-Hassmann’s family history has deeply influenced her research interests. The daughter of a Nazi Germany refugee and an international women’s rights scholar, she has spent her career studying the effects of genocide, famine, globalization, and economics , as well as the rights and roles of women, children, gays, and lesbians.
Currently, she is a professor in the Department of Global Studies at the Balsillie School of International Affairs in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. She has authored many books, including The Age of Apology: Facing Up to the Past, Economic Rights in Canada and the United States, and Compassionate Canadians: Civic Leaders Discuss Human Rights.
Her presentation is part of CWU’s university-wide celebration of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial.
